The passing of Panamarenko

Published on 15.12.2019

Panamarenko has passed away. Undoubtedly, he jumped on one of his absurd ‘flying’ machines towards a horizon that his scientific-poetic brain continuously explored.

During his life he had the desire to understand the world through technology, which he used as a way to see the beauty of the universe. The exhibition that the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (RMFAB) devoted to him in 2005-2006 fully embraced this. It was the opportunity for an intense collaboration between the museum staff and the artist, who used this great event (90,000 visitors) to announce his withdrawal from all artistic activities.

The direction and staff of the RMFAB want to pay him a lively tribute and express to his family and loved ones their sincere condolences. Until the end of the year, visitors can rediscover his “Thunder Cloud” (1971) in the Main Hall of the museum (free access).
